So what is social bookmarking? You may have heard people talking about how fun and convenient it is. But you may have also heard many Internet Marketers raving about it as being a traffic generator. If you haven't, then I am going to tell it to you right now. Social bookmarking can help you bring more traffic to your website, and in some cases it can bring them in massive numbers.

Social Bookmarking is a convenient way to store your bookmarks and have them with you whever you go. Have you ever had a bookmark on your computer and you wanted to visit that website, but you weren't at home? Perhaps you have a home computer and a laptop, but they do not have the same bookmarks!

Social bookmark websites allow you to save your bookmarks on your account so you can access them anytime you have Internet access. All you have to do is log into your account! It's very similar to having an email account at Yahoo or Google, where you can check your email whever you are instead of having to set up your email software at every computer you use.

So how does this generate traffic for your website? Remember that this is not called Internet bookmarking, it is called Social Bookmarking! When you save your bookmarks through your account, you also have the option of making that link public! Since most people do not have many bookmarks that they want to keep a secret, they usually leave most of their bookmarks public.

These public bookmarks can actually be seen by other users, and they can see how many people bookmark that particular website. What draws in the traffic is that if a lot of people seem to be bookmarking a particular page, they get interested in it and visit the website too.

So for example, if 500 people have bookmarked a particular page, a lot of people get curious as to what it is about, and they all visit it! Plus even if only a few people have bookmarked your page, they can still search through the public bookmarks, and may happen to find your website!

In order to promote people to Social bookmark your website more often, it is helpful to Social bookmark buttons on your webpages so people can do so in one easy click. Try to take advantage of this growing trend while it is still young, because it gives you more time to have your website bookmarked by users, which will create even more interest in your website!
